Laserlab-Europe CLF Training Weeks

The Central Laser Facility, based at the UK’s Rutherford Appleton Laboratory provides a training platform for new PhD students to learn the key skills to participate in high power laser experiments. This year they will host a dedicated Laserlab-Europe event, offering an opportunity for PhD students across the partner facilities and institutes to attend.

The event provides an opportunity to network with other Laserlab-Europe students whilst taking part in the training we provide. The course will cover the basic skills required for experimental laser-plasma physics - everything from optical alignment and target manufacturing through to setting up an experimental geometry, taking shots and analysing data.

The course is spread over 2 weeks and is practically focused with the majority of time being spent within the Vulcan TAW experimental area.

2 courses will be held (2 weeks each):

  • Course 1 will begin on the 25th July 2022
  • Course 2 will begin on the 1st August 2022

Travel and subsistence expenses will be covered by Laserlab-Europe through the CLF. Travel and accommodation can be arranged through the CLF User Office once students have been allocated a place. Accommodation will be at the Ridgeway House Hotel, which is located across the road from the RAL site.
