Postdoctoral Researcher position Development of Ion Soft Landing Instrument, Max Planck Institute, Stuttgart, Germany

The Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research in Stuttgart, Germany has an opening for postdoctoral position to set up an ion soft landing instrument.

The instrument enables molecular ions obtained from electrospray ionization to be collimated and steered toward a surface for their intact deposition. The adsorbed molecules would be characterized at the single molecule level using cryogenic scanning probe microscopy and/or transmission electron microscopy.

They seek someone who is curious, enthusiastic, team oriented, fluent and articulate in oral and written English, a holder of PhD in Physics, Chemistry, or equivalent. They prioritize candidates with knowledge of instrumentation and electronics in mass spectrometry and/or gas-phase ion spectroscopy. Knowledge/skill in physical chemistry, low temperature scanning probe microscopy and spectroscopy, electron microscopy, ultrahigh vacuum systems, native electrospray, ion beam manipulation, and/or ab initio calculations is advantageous.
