Postdoc position in experimental chemical kinetics and photochemistry in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in Boulder, Colorado USA

Job Summary

The Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) at the University of Colorado Boulder is seeking a Postdoctoral researcher to join the Chemical Processes and Instrument Development group of NOAA’s Chemical Sciences Laboratory (CSL). Within this group, the CIRES Postdoc will work closely with a team of NOAA and CIRES scientists to perform laboratory kinetic and photochemical studies of proposed replacement compounds, species emitted from wildfires, e.g., furanoids and phenols, and trace species impacting air quality. What your key responsibilities will be

  • Work closely with a team of NOAA and CIRES scientists to advance the understanding of the atmospheric chemical and physical processing of replacement compounds and species emitted from wildfires.
  • Assist in the design laboratory experiments, perform experiments, and interpret data.
  • Report on this research in scientific conferences and in peer-reviewed publications

About the position

The position is for a two-year appointment, but can be renewed based on merit (e.g., first author publications). Successful applicants should have a strong background in experimental chemical kinetic studies such as OH, Cl-atom, NO3 radical reaction rate coefficient measurements, techniques, and atmospheric degradation mechanism analysis, and photochemical measurements including UV and IR absorption spectrum measurements, photolysis product and quantum yield determinations. Experience with vacuum systems, FTIR and UV spectroscopy, pulsed excimer and dye laser systems, and ToF-MS instruments is beneficial.
Solid communication skills in English (written, oral), a publication record, and independent working skills are required.
