Developments in Optics and Communications / Laserlab III Training School

The 10th International Young Scientist Conference "Developments in Optics and Communications" will be held in conjunction with the Laserlab III Training School for Potential Users "Laser Applications in Spectroscopy, Industry and Medicine". The event will take place on April 9-12, 2014 in Riga, Latvia.

Mission

The conference "Developments in Optics and Communications" brings together young scientists and students working in the fields of optics and photonics to share ideas for research and to establish contacts for future collaborations.

The mission of the Laserlab III Training School for Potential Users "Laser Applications in Spectroscopy, Industry and Medicine" is to introduce networking opportunities for laser scientists in Europe. The Laserlab Europe User Community Training School offers an opportunity for the participants to receive all necessary information to become a prospective user of the Transnational Access Programme provided by Laserlab-Europe. Our intention is to build up a closer contact between users and technology providers, to establish and enhance cooperation among the European laboratories in the biomedical laser research and advancing the involvement of East European research teams in the international projects and programmes.

Scientific Programme

Conference topics are:
- Laser physics and spectroscopy;
- Biophotonics;
- Optical materials and phenomena;
- Optics in communication;
- Vision science.

The training school will feature laboratory exercises for graduate students and young scientists at the research facilities of the University of Latvia - Institute of Solid State Physics, Institute of Atomic Physics and Spectroscopy and Laser Centre of University of Latvia. Early application is strongly encouraged, as the number of participants in the laboratory exercises is limited.

A seminar explaining opportunities offered by the Laserlab network and giving practical advice on joining the network's Transnational Access programme will take place during the event.
