Laserlab-Europe and the Central Laser Facility, UK jointly conducted an international workshop on "intense, high contrast laser pulses" during the IFSA-2011 conference in September 2011 in Bordeaux. The workshop had the following aims:
(1) reviewing existing methods to produce high contrast laser pulses,
(2) Exploring potential ways to enhance pulse contrast,
(3) investigating future diagnostics for high contrast pulses and
(4) exploring the impact of contrast in laser-plasma experiments.
The workshop had invited speakers from most leading high power laser labs and had over 50 attendees from around the world. The workshop highlighted the huge international interest in this area and the Laserlab plans to make such workshops regular events.
