The 6th edition of the High Energy Class Diode Pumped Solid State Laser Workshop took place Sept 8th to 10th on the University of Versailles Campus, France. The workshop was supported by Laserlab.

After previous occurrences in Japan and the USA, this edition was located in Europe where the High energy class DPSSL momentum is currently pointing at, especially with the rise of the Czech (HiLASE) and British (DIPOLE) programs complementing the French (LUCIA) and German (POLARIS) operating facilities. While USA and Japan have seen HALNA (ILE) and Mercury (LLNL) either decommissioned or transferred out of the academic sphere, large scale multi kJ class laser projects were presented: LIFE (USA), Genbu (Japan) and HiPER (Europe) for Fusion Energy application, and also the European ELI laser project.

Presented subjects concerned the most recent DPSSL developments in terms of industrial and academic research (laser diodes, gain medium, thermal management, …) but the workshop also was an opportunity to present the state of the art of 100 Joules class world programs with the existing facilities in France, Germany, Japan and USA as well as the planned European programs (HiLASE, DIPOLE, ELI, …).

About 30 presentations were given, mainly from the four co-organizing laboratories:
- Laboratoire Utilisation des Lasers Intenses (LULI), Palaiseau, France
- Institute of Laser Engineering (ILE), Osaka, Japan
- Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), Livermore, USA
- Friedrich Schiller University-IOQ, Jena, Germany)
Ten posters were displayed as well.

About 70 participants attended the workshop, including a large delegation from industry. The Laser Company Quantel, which supported this event, organized a tour of its laser diode facilities. The participants were given a tour at the LULI laboratory as well, visiting the LULI2000, ELFIE and LUCIA Laser programs.
