Neils Meeting

Network on Extreme Intensity Laser Systems NEILS
2017 Annual meeting, @ Centro de Laser Pulsados, Salamanca Spain, Tuesday 20 June 2017

"Target Area operation at high rep Rate for Peta/femto laser systems"

On June 20th, 2017 the meeting: "Network on Extreme Intensity Laser Systems" NEILS within LaserLab-Europe will be organized by The Centro de Láseres Pulsados (CLPU) in Salamanca, Spain, chaired by Luca Volpe.
The aim of the network activity is to gather different European centres to reinforce collaboration and exchange of knowledge on this point that we have identified as one of the challenges of the HRR Petawatt science.

More in detail:
The advent of Ti-Sa laser systems and other promising technologies is nowadays a reality in Europe where an increasing number of ultra short and ultra intense laser facilities are growing up. The Centro de Laseres Pulsados (CLPU) is one of the most representative facilities in this area and at the moment is finalizing the implementation of a Multi-Terawatt system made by three lasers pulses: the 20 TW (VEGA-1), the 200 TW (VEGA-2) and the 1 PW power at 1-10 Hz synchronised on the fs scale.

The unique combination of high power, short duration and high repetition rate is stimulating a special interest and efforts in the scientific community around the target area development to better exploit laser properties. The NEILS meeting will focus on the target area development for high power high rep laser systems. To date many researches are in progress in connection with this thematic among which some of the most relevant can be chosen to define the main topics of discussion:

1. Solid target development, motion for replenishment and micro-positioning and EMP
2. Near critical density targets development for particle acceleration and vacuum technology
3. Rep rate targets for applications: Debris, plasma mirrors:
4. Targetry networks and Fabrication

Development of the round table discussion

The workshop will be organised in 4 different sections each chaired by three representative scientists. Each section duration is around 1-1.5 hours; two sections in the morning and two in the afternoon.
Participants in the workshops will be requested to prepare the discussed topics and should be ready to share their experience in form of small oral contributions moderated by a topic coordinator, each section will be introduced by an overview presentation of the coordinator.

1. State of the art and scientific environment
2. Technological development
3. Main issues to be solved
4. Possible strategies
