Senior post-doctoral position within the project MUR-PRIN CONQUEST - attoseCOnd electron dyNamics in QuantUm confinEd SysTems probed by high-order harmonic spectroscopy in solids. The aim of the project is investigating nonlinear properties of solids by High-order Harmonic Generation (HHG) Spectroscopy, opening the path to the study of attosecond processes in extended materials. The applicant will conduct benchmark HHG experiments on semiconductor materials, with a mid-IR parametric source already available at the UdynI labs, and will develop the technology and know-how for HHG spectroscopy in materials characterized by topological phase transitions. As a senior post-doc member of our group, you will be given significant autonomy, and you will be expected to take on a bigger leadership role, contributing to the decision-making process and supervising master degree projects and PhD students


The successful applicant holds a PhD in physics, physical chemistry, materials science, or related topics, and at least two years of experience after the PhD degree in an experimental research laboratory. We expect experience in at least two of the following fields: femtosecond laser sources and ultra-short pulse compression techniques, ultrafast spectroscopy, non-linear optics, solid-state physics, atomic and molecular physics. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in high order harmonic generation, in the development of vacuum systems and spectroscopic instruments for the detection of UV/EUV light, and/or in the utilization and development of cooling systems for the study of solid samples at cryogenic temperatures.


Fully funded 2 years (1+1) position. Net salary 28.000€ per year (~2’100€/month), with the possibility to have an increment during the second year. All research costs are sustained by CNR-IFN.

The Ultrafast Dynamics In molecules group (UdynI) is a joint research group between the Institute for Photonics and Nanotechnologies of the Italian National Research Council (CNR-IFN) and the Physics Department of Politecnico di Milano. The group conducts basic research in the field of strong-field and attosecond physics, for probing matter with an unprecedented temporal and spatial resolution typical of electron structure and dynamics.
