Postdoctoral and Ph.D. positions to investigate the ultrafast dynamics of ionized liquid water and biomolecules at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore

Postdoctoral and Ph.D. student positions are available in Prof. Zhi-Heng Loh’s group at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. The project involves the use of femtosecond pulses in the soft X-ray to short-wave infrared to investigate the ultrafast dynamics of ionized liquid water and biomolecules in aqueous solution. The experiments will employ tabletop femtosecond laser sources and X-ray free-electron laser facilities.

Candidates for the postdoctoral position must possess a strong track record in experimental physical chemistry, chemical physics, AMO physics, or related fields. Experience with the operation and maintenance of equipment used in ultrafast laser spectroscopy as well as computer programming will be an advantage. Candidates for the Ph.D. scholarship must have a strong academic record and previous research experience. All candidates must be highly motivated and possess good oral and written communication skills in English.

The initial appointment for the postdoctoral position is for one year and is renewable annually subject to mutual agreement. The Ph.D. scholarship is for a duration of four years, starting August 2022, and will cover both tuition and a monthly stipend.

Applicants should send a cover letter, a CV, and the names and contact information of two referees to Prof. Zhi-Heng Loh (zhiheng@ntu.edu.sg). Applications for the Ph.D. positions should also include an academic transcript. Excellent candidates for the Ph.D. positions will be considered for the prestigious (and lucrative) NTU Nanyang President’s Graduate Scholarship.

Deadline for application: December 31st 2021
