Postdoc Position "Ultrafast Optical and THz Spectroscopy on 2D Materials for Optoelectronics" at TU Delft in The Netherlands

The project involves fundamental studies on charge carriers, excitons, trions and larger many-body complexes in ultrathin 2D Layered Metal-Chalcogenide Semiconductors and Topological Insulators. We focus on processes that are relevant for development of highly efficient solar cells, photocatalysis or quantum information processing (spintronics, valleytronics).

You will carry out femtosecond pump-probe laser spectroscopy to study the dynamics of charges, excitons, trions etc. in 2D semiconductors MX2 (M = Mo, W, Re, Zr, or Hf and X = S, Se or Te) and Topological Insulator nanosheets (e.g. Bi2Se3). Using optical and terahertz conductivity measurements you will characterize the formation, mobility and decay kinetics of charges, excitons, trions etc. Particular attention will be paid to production of two or more electron-hole pairs for the absorption of a single photon via a process known as carrier multiplication (CM). CM can significantly enhance the efficiency of solar energy conversion.

You will work in the group of prof. Laurens Siebbeles at TU Delft, see https://www.tudelft.nl/tnw/over-faculteit/afdelingen/chemical-engineering/principal-scientists/laurens-siebbeles/laurens-siebbeles-group.

The project has a duration of 21 months and is carried out in collaboration with prof. Peter Schall at the University of Amsterdam and Toyota Motor Europe in Brussels.

Candidates must have a PhD degree and experience with time-resolved laser spectroscopy.

Please send a motivation letter, CV, list of publications and contact information of references (or letters of recommendation) to prof. dr. L.D.A. Siebbeles, e-mail: l.d.a.siebbeles@tudelft.nl. Closing date: as soon as a suitable candidate has been found.

Your salary is in the range € 3561 to € 4490 per month. Benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.

The TU Delft offers a customisable compensation package, a discount on health insurance and sport memberships, and a monthly work costs contribution. Flexible work schedules can be arranged.

For international applicants we offer the Coming to Delft Service and Partner Career Advice to assist you with your relocation. An International Children's Centre offers childcare and there is an international primary school.
