Postdoc position on computational modeling of complex bio-molecular systems at the University of Cagliari, Italy

A postdoc position is available at the University of Cagliari (Italy) to support computational modeling of complex bio-molecular systems.

Summary: the goal of the project is to investigate radiolabeled compounds for cancer imaging and therapy. We will first focus on peptide hormones analogous to somatosatin (SST) and interacting with SSTR2, the SST receptor mainly expressed in solid neuroendocrine tumors. Starting from experimental structures, MD and QM/MM simulations of receptor-ligand complexes will be performed. We aim to rationalize the selectivity of SSTR2 and homologous receptors, and identify peptide-protein interactions crucial for molecular recognition.

Duties and responsibilities:

- Set up and analyse simulations of biomolecular systems
- Design research ideas independently and in association with the coordinators
- Attend and participate actively in research meetings and group seminars
- Develop and write documentation, scientific reports, publications, and grants
- Guide and mentor graduate or undergraduate students

Requirements: PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Bioinformatics, Computational biology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Biotechnology; good publication record in the field of molecular simulations. Expertise in the following techniques is preferred:molecular docking, MD simulations, QM and QM/MM calculations. Knowledge on GPCR functioning and radiopharmaceuticals constitute an additional asset.
