Postdoc position in Solvation Dynamics, Cluster of Excellence Advanced Imaging of Matter, Hamburg, Germany

Responsibilities

Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.

Specific duties

Set up and operate a femtosecond optical experiments setup (transient absorption) with a MHz amplified fs laser system in the home lab, Design and Implement a femtosecond fluorescence upconversion setup with the existing MHz laser system.

Participate and lead in time-resolved x-ray campaigns at synchrotrons and XFEL light sources.

Research interests in the field of ultrafast structural dynamics (physical chemistry) or related.

Requirements

A university degree in a relevant field plus doctorate.

  • PhD degree in physics or related discipline
  • hands-on experience with UV/vis/IR femtosecond lasers and the design, assembly and alignment of optical setups
  • knowledge of Python, Matlab or similar for data acquisition and analysis
  • prior experience at large-scale light sources (synchrotron, XFEL) is an asset
  • knowledge of x-ray tools (spectroscopy, scattering, diffraction) is an asset
  • knowledge of computational chemistry software (Gaussian or Orca) is an asset
