Post doc in “Coherent Raman Imaging”, Center for Life Nano- & Neuro-Science, Rome, Italy

You will be working in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group, where physicists, optical engineers and biologists collaborate, each with their own expertise, to carry out common research.

The successful candidate will join the Nanotechnology for Neuroscience Research Line, coordinated by Giancarlo Ruocco, and will work in the Coherent Raman Imaging working group led by Tullio Scopigno (, who has extensive experience in non-linear Raman processes.

The research focuses on the development and application of novel multimodal nonlinear micro spectroscopy techniques based on coherent Raman scattering to perform label-free, chemically specific imaging on cells and tissues within the context of the CLNS research lines (neurodegenerative diseases, liver diseases, metabolic tracking, cell uptake).

Within the team, your main responsibilities will be:

  • Development and improvement of novel imaging experiments based on the existing multimodal microscope
  • Implementing ex-vivo and in-vivo measurements.

  • A PhD in Physics, Physical Chemistry, Biophysics, Optical Engineering or related Disciplines
  • Documented experience in nonlinear micro-spectroscopy and ultrafast lasers, with emphasis on Coherent Raman processes
  • Biosystems-oriented sample preparation, instrument control, image collection and processing techniques
  • A strong publication record
  • The ability to properly report, organize and publish research data
  • Good command in spoken and written English

  • Knowledge of Matlab, LabVIEW, Data analysis software (python), graphics software.
