PhD position in Ultrafast dynamics in multiferroic nanostructures / solid state physics and non-linear optics, Le Mans University, France

In the framework of the our newly granted ANR research project THz-MUFINS, we are delighted to
open the call for a fully funded PhD position is opened at IMMM (Institute of Molecules and
Materials of Le Mans, UMR 6283 CNRS, Le Mans University. The project is embedded in the
research field of solid state physics and non-linear optics. The future PhD student will investigate
ultrafast dynamics in nanostructured multiferroic materials. This includes electron, phonon and spin
dynamics and their relation to the organization of ferroelectric and magnetic domains. To answer
fundamental questions, the project combines different experimental approaches, such as in-house
time-resolved optical and THz spectroscopy and time-resolved X-ray diffraction at different large-
scale facilities (synchrotron SOLEIL and others). The candidate should have a strong background
in solid-state physics and optics and should enjoy hands-on experimental work in the laboratory
and at large-scale facilities. The PhD candidate will greatly benefit from the collaborative nature of
the research project, which is run together with SPMS-Centrale Supelec, UMPhy Thalès and LPMC
Amiens University.

The starting date is included between December the 1 st of 2021 and 31 st of May 2022.

The application including two recommendation letters should be sent to pascal.ruello@univ-
lemans.fr and Vincent.juve@univ-lemans.fr
