PhD in the field of photovoltaics and laser spectroscopy at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Poland

Place: Faculty of Physics, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań (AMU), Poland.
Supervisor: Prof. dr hab.
Marcin Ziółek (http://www.staff.amu.edu.pl/~marziol).

Requirements:
- Possession of a master's degree in physics, chemistry or related fields, or planning to achieve such a title before the end of September 2023;
- Large commitment to work research, the availability of at least 4 days a week;
- Good knowledge of English;
- Being ready to go for mid-term (5 months) research internship outside Poland ;
- Admission to Doctoral School at AMU;
- Required documents: CV describing in particular the achievements of science and the competences to carry out the tasks in the research project.

Description of tasks:
The tasks are related to the Preludium-Bis project "Electron transfer processes in multi-dye sensitized solar cells studied using ultrafast laser spectroscopy", funded by the National Science Centre in Poland. The aim of the project is to study the charge transfer between different active dyes in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Recently, a DSSC with two different sensitizing dyes has become benchmark configurations with the record efficiencies both under standard sunlight as well as indoor conditions (e.g. for powering devices in the Internet of Things systems). The study will permit deeper understanding of operation of these systems and establish ways to further improve their sunlight conversion efficiency.
The main methodology to study the above systems will be modern ultrafast laser spectroscopy, with the special focus on femtosecond transient absorption in UV-VIS-NIR. The PhD student internship is planned in one of the prominent research groups outside Poland. Doctoral student will gain a knowledge of the structure and the basic characteristics of solar cells, and the operation of ultrafast laser systems. The research should make a significant contribution to basic knowledge in important fields related to the use of organic-inorganic systems in materials science, nanotechnology and the production of "green" energy.

Deadline for submission for the contest: 30 June 2023.

Conditions of employment: Scholarship in the amount of 5000 PLN (about 1100 EUR) / month (net earnings) for a period of 24 months (starting from 1 October 2023), and 6000 PLN for the period of another 24 months (after mid-term evaluation). The costs of living in Poland are about 40% lower than in Western European countries like France, Germany, Italy (https://www.expatistan.com/cost-of-living/country/comparison).
