Open Instrument Scientist Position at the Paul Scherrer Institut, Villigen, Switzerland

We have an open Instrument Scientist position at the Maloja endstation for atomic, molecular, non-linear and chemical sciences at SwissFEL at the Paul Scherrer Institut in Villigen.

The successful candidate will contribute to the development and user operation at Maloja which is dedicated to ultrafast and intense X-ray sciences. Furthermore, the candidate will be able to carry out an independent research program in the wider area of ultrafast dynamics, single-shot imaging and non-linear X-ray sciences with applications in chemical sciences and atomic, molecular and optical physics. Possible development directions include the advancement of instrumentation, experimental techniques and analysis tools for XFEL applications.

We are seeking for an enthusiastic scientist with a PhD degree in physics, chemistry or a related field. You have research experience in one of the scientific domains related to Maloja, including but not limited to non-linear X-ray sciences, ultrafast chemical dynamics, attosecond spectroscopy or single-shot diffractive imaging. You enjoy conducting experiments and have hands-on experience in planning and commissioning instrumentation as well as data analysis routines. You have a passion for working at a scientific user facility in an interdisciplinary, multinational team with scientific and technical members.

This is a tenure track position with an initial duration of three years, which will become permanent upon positive evaluation after five years.
