MCSA PhD position in femtosecond spectroscopy of 2d materials at Politecnico di Milano, Italy

For the EU-funded MSCA-ITN-2020 project entitled "Developing optoelectronics in two-dimensional semiconductors" (project acronym "2Exciting"), the Physics Department at the Politecnico di Milano (POLIMI) offers 1 position as Early Stage Researcher (ESR)

The project is funded by the MARIE SKŁODOWSKA CURIE Innovative Training Network (ITN) within the Horizon 2020 Programme of the European Commission. General information about the openings of the ITN 2Exciting can be found here.

The work will be carried out in the research group of Prof. Christoph Gadermaier (as part of the larger femtosecond spectroscopy activities), The ESR will be enrolled in the PhD programme at the Physics Department.

The research will focus on the use of femtosecond optical spectroscopy to understand the role of the stacking angle on the charge separation and recombination and on the properties of indirect excitons as well as the influence of the Moiré pattern on the indirect exciton and the role of the bright and dark exciton level alignment on the valley polarization. To this end, you will investigate the relaxation behaviour of bright and dark excitons in different heterostructures, the spin transfer in heterostructures and the possibility of dielectric control of the relaxation behaviour.
