The ETH Zurich is searching for a director to lead ultrafast science activities at FastLab. The FastLab at ETH Zurich is a new interdisciplinary facility for conducting experiments in ultrafast science using state of the art laser technology. It involves the active collaboration between multiple independent research groups that have interest in using ultrashort pulses from the THz to x-ray region of the electromagnetic spectrum. The FastLab is currently funded for a period of 5 years, with extensions foreseen.

Job description

The director position is to be filled with a senior researcher with experience leading research connected to ultrafast lasers in a highly collaborative environment. The director is responsible for the operational management of the FastLab and supervises technical and scientific employees directly employed by the facility. He or she reports to a management team consisting of representatives from research groups actively working in FastLab.

Your profile

The applicant should have a PhD in physics, physical chemistry, materials science or a related discipline. Experience and familiarity with ultrafast laser systems is required, and specific experience with high-field THz sources and/or high harmonic sources is highly desirable. The successful candidate must also be willing to work closely with the FastLab partners and to develop new capabilities of interest to the local community.
