Description: The Ultraviolet Laser Facility (ULF-FORTH) is a multi-disciplinary scientific laboratory dedicated
to laser-based science, supporting high quality basic and technological research. It is the major
Laser Research Facility in Greece. ULF-FORTH combines state-of-the-art experimental facilities with a rich
spectrum of research activities and scientific expertise that provide an intellectual environment, ideal for
fostering new ideas and advancing scientific research. Active areas of research at ULF-FORTH include
Atomic and Optical Physics, Molecular Physics and Chemical Dynamics, Interaction of lasers with materials
(fundamentals and applications), Laser applications in Biomedicine and Laser techniques in Cultural
Heritage.

Excellence: Scientists at ULF-FORTH produce internationally recognized cutting-edge work in diverse
fields including among others attosecond science and metrology, chemical reaction dynamics, ultrafast laser
materials processing and nanofabrication and applications of novel laser-based techniques relevant to
cultural heritage applications. ULF-FORTH has been designated by several EC technical reviews, as well as
independent evaluation pannels, as an “excellent scientific environment for research work”.

Main tasks: In the present proposal ULF-FORTH participates in the networking activities of LASERLAB
EUROPE, provides transnational Access and participates in two of the proposed JRA projects.

Previous experience: Since 1990 ULF-FORTH has been operating as a European Research Infrastructure,
and has been very active in transnational Access (over 300 Users from the EU have used over 2200 days of
beam time and for carrying out around 300 research projects). Several research projects with other laser
infrastructures and Networking activities LASERLAB EUROPE have been persued. It has been among the
initiators of the LIMANS cluster of laser facilities, the LASERNET network and LASERLAB EUROPE.
