Science@FELs 2016

The international Science@FELs Conference, organized by Elettra - Sincrotrone Trieste, will take place from September 5 to September 7, 2016 at the Savoia Excelsior Palace in Trieste. This conference is a follow up of the Science@FELs 2014 at the Paul Scherrer Institute and the one in 2012 at DESY and will henceforth be organized regularly as an activity of the Collaboration of European FEL and SPS Facilities (FELs OF EUROPE). This year Laserlab Europe will take part in the organization of the Science@FELs conference with the aim to stimulate more extensive cross-fertilization and collaboration between the two communities, i.e. those working with lab-scale lasers and FELs, respectively.

Science@FELs 2016 will focus on the scientific highlights achieved during the last years in the fast evolving development and operation lasers sources that are enabling experiments to shorter wavelengths, adding element and chemical state specificity by exciting and probing electronic transitions from core levels.

EUCALL Young Researcher Travel Bursaries

The European Cluster of Advanced Laser Light Sources (EUCALL) provides Travel Bursaries for up to 20 young researchers to attend the conference. Selected candidates can receive up to 500 € to cover travel and accommodation costs. Please, note that candidate's own institution is expected to cover the conference registration costs (150 €).

Eligible are all science graduate students or recent PhDs (doctorate granted after 1 January 2014).

Please, apply for a Travel Bursary to attend the "Science@FELs Conference 2016" at the following link:
https://www.eucall.eu/bursaries/sciencefels/index_eng.html

The deadline for applications is 01.06.2016.

20 successful candidates will be selected by EUCALL's Steering Committee and will be notified during June 2016. Please, note that one criterion for eligibility is that the application to the conference is approved.

"FEL Science and Applications" Award

The scientific Committee of the conference is presently soliciting nominations for the prize in 'FEL Science and Applications' for young researchers. Details of the application procedure and information required are given below.

Nominations are to be received by email by June 30th, 2016 at the latest.

The prize is awarded in recognition of recent work for scientific excellence in the area of free electron laser science and applications in its broadest sense by a young scientist (below 35 years at the ceremony date). The work for which the individual is nominated must be such that a significant component of it was performed during the period 3 years prior to the award. The award is accompanied by a certificate, and a monetary sum of 1500 euros.

The Prize Ceremony and Lecture will be highlights of the Science@FELs 2016 Conference.

Nominations must include:

  • A cover letter provided by the nominator with proposed citation
  • Nominee CV(s)
  • A list of publications covering the last five years.
