Partners - SLIC
Saclay Laser-Matter Application Centre, CEA, Saclay, France
Description: A research centre dedicated to
ultrafast photosciences, SLIC houses ultrafast (25-50fs) laser
facilities featuring ultra-high intensities (1020 W/cm2) with
ultra-high temporal contrast (>1010), high
intensity at high repetition rate (0.4TW @ 1 kHz), large tuneability
(500-750 nm) up to femto/attosecond
XUV beamlines. Set-ups are available for femtochemistry, solid state
physics and plasma physics
experiments. Development of ultrafast lasers and diagnostics,
applications of intense femto/attosecond XUV
sources, particle acceleration, laser-solid interaction, organic
femtochemistry are the main lines of research
carried out by the SLIC internal community of 50 researchers.
Excellence: Research with short-pulse
(femtosecond/attosecond) and high-intensity/high contrast lasers
Main tasks: SLIC will provide 332 days of Access; it
is estimated that 16 projects will be hosted involving
about 40 Users. In ALADIN, SLIC will produce high energy attosecond
pulses from High Order Harmonics
in gases (microjoule/pulse) and plasma (mJ/pulse), for application to
ultrafast imaging of molecules and
nano-objects. In LAPTECH, SLIC will study electron acceleration in the
“bubble regime”, characterizing
electron beams (charge, energy, duration, emittance) as well as plasma
wake-field stability and scalability.
Previous experience: Since 2003, SLIC has provided
more than 500 days of Access within the FP5 and FP6
Transnational Access programmes and received 105 Users involved in 32
projects. Within the LASERLAB
EUROPE (FP6) FOSCIL JRA, SLIC has obtained important results on
production of intense XUV pulses
and their complete characterization. SLIC participated to the FP6
European projects XTRA (Marie-Curie RTN), TUIXS (NEST), dedicated to
the applications of ultrafast coherent XUV pulses, and EUROFEL
(Design Studies)
