Partners - MBI

The MBI is one of the leading institutes in ultra-fast and high-intensity laser-matter interactions according to a recent external evaluation by the Senate of the German Leibniz Association. It conducts basic research in the field of nonlinear optics and ultrafast dynamics of the interaction of light with matter, and pursues applications that emerge from this research. It develops and uses ultrafast and ultra-intense lasers and laser-driven short-pulse light sources in a broad spectral range in combination with methods of nonlinear spectroscopy. With its research the MBI fulfills a nationwide mission and is an integral part of the international science community. It offers its facilities and its scientific know-how also to external researchers within the framework of an active guest programme. The MBI is involved in a large number and variety of cooperative research projects with universities, other research institutions and industrial partners.

Excellence: Development of ultrashort and ultraintense pulsed laser sources in a broad spectral range. Relevant applications in different research areas, ranging from atomic, molecular, cluster, and surface physics to the physics of condensed matter, including biological structures. Main tasks: Co-ordinator, Administrative Unit (WP1), IT support (WP2, WP6), participant in networking activities, infrastructure providing Access (WP10), participant in JRA (WP29, WP30, WP33)

Previous experience: MBI has been coordinator and work package coordinator in several major EC projects in previous framework programmes, most notably in LASERNET (FP5) and in LASERLAB-EUROPE (FP6). MBI staff has actively participated in the different Networking and Joint Research Activities of the above projects. Since 1996 (FP4), MBI has provided transnational Access to European researchers.
