Description: IST is the leading science and technology university in Portugal, attracting the top physics and
engineering students. IST’s Laser and Plasma Group (GoLP) is integrated in the Institute for Plasmas and
Nuclear Fusion, an Associated Laboratory for Plasma Physics, Nuclear Fusion and Intense Lasers – a status
given by the Portuguese Ministry of Science to the top research units of high strategic relevance to the
country. GoLP manages the Laboratory for Intense Lasers, the largest laser laboratory in Portugal, hosting a
multi-terawatt Ti:sapphire-Nd:glass laser system, one of the largest research infrastructures at IST and in
Portugal.

Excellence: Theory, advanced computing and experiments in laser-plasma interaction, including electron
acceleration, high-harmonic generation and tunable sources; CPA laser science and technology.

Main tasks: Participation in JRA’s HAPPIE, LAPTECH and SFINX; participation in networking activities;
participation in ELI and HiPER.

Previous experience: IST maintains active bilateral collaborations with LASERLAB EUROPE members
such as RAL, LULI, LOA, FSU, and MPQ, and coordinates the NEST Adventure TUIXS (tabletop ultraintense
x-ray sources). IST researchers have benefited from Access to LLE facilities.
