Description: Scientific topics and organizational structure: Laser Department; Laboratory of Solid State
Quantum Electronics; Plasma Physics and Nuclear Fusion Laboratory; Low Temperature Plasma Physics
Laboratory; Electron Accelerators Laboratory and Institute for Space Sciences. The National Institute for
Laser, Plasma and Radiation Physics is carrying out fundamental and applied research in laser physics (high
power CO2 lasers, laser surface-plasma interactions, nonlinear and information optics, research on discrete
quantum systems), plasma physics (fusion plasma physics, theoretical studies and numerical simulations of
the plasma evolution in tokomak devices, particle beams and X-radiation in ultra fast transient plasmas,
plasma surface engineering), physics of electron beams (development of an industrial process regarding
radiographic control) and space physics.

Excellence: The research activity is mainly connected to fundamental physics, innovative technologies as
well as to new material processing and material characterization by optical and complementary methods.

  • ROMANIAN EXCELLENCE CENTER OF PHOTONICS -ROCEP- was created to help give the country a clear research framework and also as a National Contact Point for the laser field.
  • The Laser Metrology and Standardization Laboratory / LMSL is an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory for testing laser-based products and optical fiber systems / projects for the building of metrology infrastructure.
  • CAPACITY 2008 Center for advanced laser technology / as a preparatory phase for ELI / PC7.

Main tasks: In the work package 34: JRA SFINX, INFLPR is involved in:

  • Task 1: Novel architectures of High peak power soft x-ray laser
  • Task 2: Realization of ultra-intense soft x-ray laser (I ≥ 1017Wcm-2)

Previous experience: Dr. Daniel Ursescu member of Laser Department and co-worker within the research
group were involved in many theoretical and experimental activities, see http://ssl.inflpr.ro.
