Institut für Optik und Quantenelektronik, Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena, Germany
Description: The Institute for Optics and Quantum
Electronics (IOQ) was founded in 1990 as one of the
institutes of the Department of Physics and Astronomy of the
Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena. The
institute has a range of well characterized laser systems, detection
capabilities and experience in the field of
laser-oriented research, especially in the study of high-energy
particles and photons generated by the interaction of high-intensity
laser pulses with matter. The institute develops high intensity laser
systems with
the goal to provide ultrashort laser pulses with energies up to 150 J
and peak intensities in excess of 1021
W/cm² for the visible and the IR wavelength range. The IOQ has a team
of highly experienced engineers and
scientists operating the laser systems and the detection devices. The
institute is embedded in a number of
fruitful collaborations with other national and international
institutes.
Excellence: Operation of a fully equipped
high-intensity laser laboratory, well established experience in
experimental relativistic laser plasma physics, high energy particle
acceleration and generation of high
energy radiation with lasers; laser and target development.
Main tasks: Participant in networking activities,
infrastructure providing Access, participating in Joint
Research Activities HAPPIE and ALADIN.
Previous experience:
- The IOQ is providing access to its multi-TW-laser laboratory to several European research groups within the FP6 project LASERLAB-EUROPE
- Participation in Joint Research activity OTTER within FP6 project LASERLAB: Measurement of damage threshold of laser materials; design and realization of a mosaic grating compressor and alignment procedures; development of novel pump laser diodes for high power femtosecond lasers.
- participation in networking activities
